Didn’t you campaign for this job?

From President Obama’s economic speech at The Brookings Institution
12/09/09

….In his speech, Obama accused Republicans of failing to take responsibility for the current crisis.

He said he was forced to tackle it upon taking office “largely without the help of an opposition party, which, unfortunately, after having presided over the decision-making that had led to the crisis, decided to hand it over to others to solve.”

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong: Isn’t that how the Presidency usually works — that the next one has to pick up or fix where the last one left off? The years were up, an election was due, and a new man was voted into office.

So really, they didn’t “decide to hand it over to others to solve”; in fact, they had no choice but to hand it over. The election came at a hard time in the economy, and whoever stepped into the office would have to work on a solution. That “who” turned out to be you.

If I remember correctly, Mr. President, you wanted the job, campaigned to be elected to the position, and told everyone that, yes, you could do it. However, I believe the American people care more about results than whether you feel like you’re being criticized for someone else’s mess.

In fact, wasn’t that part of your platform, that you would change the way things are done and, in essence, fix things? Are you surprised that you are being measured by the expectations you set?

And I hate to say it, sir, but saying, “He started it!” doesn’t help.
