The bloggers at The Christian Science Monitor have a nice sense of humor to go with their geology.
Take this post about the rumbling volcano in Alaska:
Mt. Redoubt [is] a 10,197-foot active volcano 103 miles west of Anchorage. Scientists at the US Geological Survey’s Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) are keeping close tabs on the mountain. They say an eruption may be imminent.
….Mt. Redoubt falls into a category dubbed stratovolcanos. Think Mt. Doom in Lord of the Rings.
And from a related post:
Mount Redoubt, an active stratovolcano in the state’s Aleutian Range, is twitching and belching like someone who just downed a case of Mountain Dew, signs that geologists say tend to precede an eruption.
You can follow news on Mt. Redoubt in AVO Twitter posts or via two webcams.
