I just adore this image I found at Etsy tonight.

Maybe it’s because I look at the wear on this little deer and think of how much this toy was loved, or at least played with. What kind of make-believe did it inspire? Whose little hands directed its adventure? Did it ever get lost outside? And how did it get nicks on the ears and antler — from a teething toddler, the family dog, or a season in the sandbox?
Plus, the photo is just emotive on its own. The deer is looking expectantly towards what seems to be a bright doorway, and perhaps a figure standing in that doorway. Without seeing its face, you can imagine any kind of expression your mood conjures up.
And I like the dichotomy of this worn, used toy appearing in a modern gallery.
I could go on, but I think I’ll just enjoy the photo instead.
