I am happy to report that I now have phone and DSL active at my house.
The problem turned out to be in a hidden phone jack — hidden by a bookcase in my bedroom — which I had forgotten was there. Of course, that was the jack where all the wires entered my condo, including wires for an alarm system if I wanted one.
Thankfully the second tech out here didn’t give up, and didn’t take my word for it when I said that I didn’t have anymore phone jacks. Using his signal detector wand, he found the hidden jack, and then it was a matter of minutes to reconnect the one wire that the cable company had cut. (Incidentally, the previous owner must have had cable phone — that’s why when the cable guy set up my service, he didn’t do any rewiring inside, which totally confused the issue.)
Anyway, I’m a happy camper. And both techs were very nice, even though each spent an hour trying to solve the problem. So far Verizon has been treating me very well!
Now I’m off to bask in the fast-loading pages of my new connection, and probably search for reference photos for a drawing idea I conjured up this week.
*happy sigh*
