Sick as a dog

Yesterday I had a rather strong caramel macchiato at the Starbucks-affiliated cafe on campus, and soon afterwards I got a headache and my stomach was complaining. I thought it was just the strong coffee talking, since I don’t drink straight coffee at all.

But things got worse after I got home. Not to be too gross, but my body was expelling everything. After I tossed up the coffee, I felt much better, and wondered what could have made me react that violently to coffee. I drank some ice water and watched TV. My head was killing me. Then I tossed up the water too, and major aches settled into my legs and back. Oy.

And then I started freezing. I went to bed with 3 fleece blankets on me and it seemed to take a long time to even start to warm up. I checked my temperature: 99.6.

I spent the whole night in some kind of half-consciousness, getting up to go to the bathroom several times and expelling only water. The chills left and I got very hot, so I turned on a fan and went back to bed. My whole body hurt, and my stomach was cramping.

I felt a little better when my cat woke me to feed him this morning. I tried a half glass of water. My stomach cramped in response and sent the water back. So I went back to bed and spent a good portion of the day trying to sleep despite body aches, waking to turn over and then sleeping again.

I don’t think there’s much left for my body to expel. My cat got me up this afternoon because he decided he was hungry. I feel even better, but my head still hurts. I am loathe to try drinking anything unless it will stay down. My temp is at 100 now.

We’ve had the Norovirus going around campus, so I figure that’s what I have. I checked symptoms online, but it doesn’t sound that much different than what might be diagnosed as food poisoning. Maybe the difference is in how long it lasts.

I just really hope it wasn’t the coffee.
